Whether you’re an experienced mountain biker or a novice, the local trails feature challenges for riders of all abilities. In fact, here are some of the best mountain biking trails near Woodridge for your next outdoor adventure.
Danada and Herrick Lake Regional Trail
This trail connects two of DuPage County’s forest preserves – Herrick and Danada. Combined, they cover more 1,600 acres of woodland, wetland, and prairie habitat.
The crushed stone pathway is approximately six miles, and riders see wildlife including woodchucks, white-tailed deer, and northern orioles.
Illinois & Michigan Canal State Trail
Traversing the I&M Canal National Heritage Corridor, the Illinois & Michigan Canal State Trail runs from LaSalle to the historic quarry town of Lemont.
At nearly every mile, cyclists find educational markers featuring fascinating facts about those who built and traveled the waterway. The trail is widely used on the weekend and is made up of several surfaces including grass, asphalt, and crushed limestone.
Fox River Trail
Built on stretches of three former railroads, the Fox River Trail is home to towering trees and dozens of bird species. It runs through several cities, and the Aurora section features three nationally registered historic districts.
At the North Aurora Dam, it splits into two before merging back to one in Batavia. Riders often take a break at the Batavia Depot Museum which tells the story of the railroad corridor that now makes up the trail.
While Maple Lake is a premier boating and fishing destination, it also welcomes mountain bikers. Movie buffs often recognize it as the location of the home in The Lake House.
While the movie set no longer stands, overlooks and trails remain. The unpaved trails are open to cyclists, and they’re surrounded by remnant oak savannas.
