After a busy day at work, when you’re looking for comfort food, the taste of Italy is just minutes from The Retreat at Seven Bridges in Woodridge. Clara’s Restaurant is known for their authentic Italian fare and for friendly service in a casual setting.
The Story of Clara’s Restaurant
This local favorite is run by the descendants of Anthony and Celeste Lizio. Celeste became famous for her delicious cooking at their Kedzie Beer Garden on Chicago’s West Side. Soon Kedzie’s became Celeste’s.
Later Celeste’s children expanded the business to include homemade goods. This new part of the business became so successful they closed the restaurant and focused on wholesale. This was later sold to Quaker Oats, and we new have the famous Mama Celeste brand that everyone knows and loves.
The Best Italian Restaurant this Side of Chicago
A long history of passing down the family recipes has given Woodridge one of the best Italian eateries outside of Chicago. The current incarnation of this family’s food legacy is named for Celeste’s daughter, Clara.
Described as cozy yet spacious by loyal customers, Clara’s provides an atmosphere conducive to family or romance. And if you want to be even more comfortable, they provide a carryout menu, as well.
The menu at Clara’s brings comfort as well as excellence. If it’s comfort you’re looking for, their handmade stone oven pizza will satisfy, as will their pasta. If you’re looking for something beyond the usual, they serve wonderful veal and filet dishes, as well as seafood and salmon as a part of their house specialty menu.
This isn’t your average Italian restaurant. You get more than lasagna and spaghetti. Homemade and offered in 16 varieties, Clara’s pastas can be paired with any one of their 11 sauces. Beyond Alfredo or marinara, you’ll find red clam sauce and a highly-rated vodka cream sauce.
